Upgrade of Blog Site
admin | April 08, 2008 09:41
This post is to let blog users know that within the next two weeks we will be upgrading the software for this blog site. In order for the upgrade to go as smoothly as possible, there will need to be some things done by all blog users. We will be sending e-mails and posting on this site the steps that need to take place.
For now, here is what we need each blog user to do:
1. Make sure you can receive e-mail from the domain caringonline.com. This is critical. Otherwise when we do the upgrade and send out e-mail notifications you may not receive them.
2. If you want to keep your blog, you MUST send me an e-mail informing me that you want to keep your blog. If you do not do this, your blog and username will be deleted from the server once the upgrade has been completed.
Once we start the upgrade if we have not received an e-mail and/or there is blogs that have not had posts in the last two weeks, we will be deleting the blogs and usernames.
3. If you have any pictures in your Resource folder, make sure that you have a copy of them on your local computer. At times during the upgrade, we cannot recover images.
4. Check the summary page on a regular basis to see if there are any posts by us regarding the upgrade.
5. Be sure and read the User Guide and FAQ Section (links found on Summary page) if you are having problems with using your blog. I notice posts about not being able to post comments on other blogs. You must turn on comments on your blog in order to receive comments. If you turn on comments, you must make sure you have activated anti-spam plug ins. There are directions in the User Guide and FAQ.
One last item
We will be strictly enforcing blog policies and guidelines. Make sure your blog is in compliance or it will be deleted. We have had some users using profanity on their blogs and posts that have come close to promoting eating disorders. Be aware that if your blog is not in compliance with our policies it may be deleted without notice (we do try to give warnings-but many ignore the warnings). We must enforce our blog guidelines so that Caringonline Blog Sites is a safe place for those who want to overcome ED.
Pro eating disorders blogs
admin | July 30, 2007 04:54
Per our blog policies, pro anorexia, pro eating disorder, pro self mutilation sites are not allowed on this site. If we find a blog that is in violation of this policy, it will be deleted without any warning to the blog owner.
If as a visitor or blog owner you are aware of a blog being pro eating disorders or pro self mutilation, please let us know, by posting a comment on this post. To protect your identity you do not have to use your real name when you post.
How is your blog working?
admin | April 23, 2007 08:37
We have done most of the major work regarding the upgrades.
Be sure and let us know if you are having any problems with your blog or having problems signing up for a blog.
You can post comments here.
You will notice that posting messages has become much quicker.
Be aware that almost all of the templates now allow the insertion of your photo, your blog description, and your bio. Read the FAQ's to find out how you can insert these items.
We suggest avoiding SoftBlue, Grey, caringonline templates for now-think there may be a feww bugs with them regarding visitors making comments on blogs with these templates.
All templates working
admin | April 23, 2007 01:12
All of the templates are now working. There are currently 11 templates to choose from.
Are you aware that you can change your template at any time? Just log into admn control panle, click on blogname, go to Control Centre. and choose blog settings.
Blog Site Active Again
admin | April 22, 2007 07:19
The blog site is active again. You can log into your existing account and post or you can create a new account.
Be aware, there are only two templates that are working properly at this time. They are Standard and Rubric. If you are using another template, be sure and choose one of these templates.
Here is some good news, by late tonight we will have several new templates working, plus the older templates.
Rubric template is now working
admin | April 21, 2007 15:17
You can use the Rubric and Standard template. Check back to get latest updates.
Latest update on upgrade
admin | April 20, 2007 19:59
The latest status on the upgrade is that we need to upgrade all the templates which is a tedious proces.
We recommend not using your blog until Saturday morning. If you do use your blog, we recommend using the standard template.
Go to the User Guide and/or FAQ for instructions on changing templates.
If you currently do not have a blog, do not sign up for a blog until we have tested this procedure for bugs.
Updating blog software
admin | April 20, 2007 07:16
We are upgrading this blog site. So do not create a new blog or post to an existing blog until the upgrade is complete or you may lose data.
We should have update done by Friday afternoon.
Why does the post page load so slow
admin | November 17, 2006 22:48
There are many features available for posting images, youtube videos, etc. It takes longer for all these additional tools to load. If you are not going to use them you can make it so these featues do not load and the post page will load much faster.
To disable the additional tools feature, do the following:
1. Log into admin control panel
2. Click on Blog Name
3. Go to Control Centre
4. Go to Blog Settings
5. Scroll down to Enable the visual editor of posts . Uncheck it.
6. Be sure to click activate to save your settings.
Blog and Posting Categories
admin | October 21, 2006 06:30
Greetings Blog Users
Please let em know if you are having any problems with using your blogs.
There is one thing you should be aware of when posting on your blog. With the upgrade all blogs and all posts are now sorted into categories. There are a variety of categories.
When you make a post, you need to choose a category for your post. You will see this option towards the bottom of the posting page. The default category is whatever is the first category available, which happens to be Children/Youth.
So what is happening is that almost all of your postings are being shown in this area. So when someone goes to the summary page it appears there are multitudes of postings regarding this subject.
Go to the summary page to see what I am talking about. www.caringonline.com/blog
So be sure and choose the appropriate category for your posting. It would be helpful if you would edit each of your postings to change the category so that the Summary page is more accurate. (I believe most of you are blogging about an Eating Disorder not Children/Youth.
One last thing,
You also need to choose what category that is applicable to your blog. You can do this by logging into admin and going to the Control Centre. You then choose the blog settings link. From there you can choose the category for your blog.
Keep on blogging

New Bloggers and Spam
admin | April 04, 2006 19:01
Welcome to all our new bloggers!
We have several people who have signed up for blogs. If you are having problems using your blog site, just go to the Summary Page:
http://www.caringonline.com/blog and there are links to the User Guide and KnowledgeBase/FAQ Section.
Many of the new blogs have spam on them.

Grace period has run out
admin | February 19, 2006 05:47
Over and over again we remind bloggers that have spam on their site to remove it ASAP and to implement the plug-ins that help to prevent spam. And over and over again, bloggers do nothing. So our grace period has run out.
From now on if there is a blog site that has spam, we will give one notice. If within 24 hours the spam is not removed we are deleting the blog regardless of how popular it is. Spam destroys the integrity of this blogging service. Spam advertising is offensive to others and can be a stumbling block for many.
Also, we have several individuals who create blogs but never confirm their e-mail address. Effective immediately, if a blogger does not confirm their e-mail address within 24 hours after creating a blog, we will delete their blog and username.
We also have individuals who create blogs and then do nothing with them. If there are no posts on a blog within two weeks, we will be deleting the blog without giving the notice to the owner. We spend much time sending out e-mails with no response, so no more warnings. If you do not keep your blog current, it will be deleted.
Inactive Blogs
admin | January 28, 2006 08:05
The following is our policy on Active Use of Blogs. We created this policy so that our blog site will not be filled with inactive blogs. A blog site with many inactive blogs discourages new visitors, gets tagged by some search engines as a spam site, and takes up space on the server.
We have many new members who have activated a blog and done nothing with it. The following policy will be enforced immediately.
ACTIVE USE OF BLOG
Once a member's blog is activated by them responding to the e-mail confirmation, they have 7 days to start using their blog or it will be deleted and all data will be lost. If a member has no activity in on their blog for more than 30 days, their blog will be deleted and all data will be lost.
Reminder-No advertising
admin | January 24, 2006 13:55
This is a reminder that blogs are not to be created for advertising purposes. Blogs that violate this policy will be deleted with no warning.
